My First Time in Bali: A Journey of Nerves, Growth, and Gratitude
In 2023, I boarded a plane to Bali for the very first time and little did I know, that trip would mark a turning point in both my career and my personal life. I had started working at a travel agency in early 2022, a job that quickly turned into a gateway for experiences I used to only dream about. When the opportunity came to visit Bali through work, I said yes, even though I was absolutely terrified.
My First Solo Travel Experience
This was the first trip I’d ever taken without my family by my side. As excited as I was, I couldn’t ignore the nerves building in the pit of my stomach. The idea of traveling alone, navigating airports, and being in a new country without my usual safety net was overwhelming. But somewhere deep down, I knew this was a step I needed to take.
And I’m so glad I did.
Experiencing Bali Through Work
Our itinerary included hotel inspections, a perk of the job that gave us the chance to peek behind the curtain of some truly stunning properties. Walking through lush gardens, oceanfront villas, and open-air lobbies was more than just work it was inspiration. Every place had its own charm and character, and I found myself constantly in awe of the hospitality and thoughtfulness that defines Balinese service.
But it wasn’t just about the luxury. What truly moved me was the culture.

During our trip, we had the chance to experience a small slice of true Balinese life and I fell in love with it. The people, their warmth, the slow rhythm of the island, and most of all, the food. Every meal felt like a celebration; fresh, flavorful, and rooted in tradition. Sitting down to share food with locals, tasting dishes I’d never heard of, and learning the stories behind them opened my eyes to how deeply travel can connect us to the world and to ourselves.
What Bali Taught Me
Looking back, Bali was so much more than just a work trip. It was my first real step into independence, a reminder that fear and excitement can exist together, and that beautiful things happen when you push past your comfort zone. It gave me confidence, clarity, and a renewed love for what I do.
Bali wasn’t just a destination. It was a beginning.
